Peter Edmund Martin and the Model T

Peter Edmund Martin was born 133 years ago this month in Wallaceburg, Ontario. Twenty-one years later, in 1903, he was hired as the fifth employee of a new start-up – the Ford Motor Company.

 


Five years later, in 1908, Martin and a colleague, Charles Sorenson, were tabbed by no less than Henry Ford himself to run the Ford Piquette Avenue Plant. By 1913, Martin had been officially appointed as superintendent of production at the Piquette Plant and Sorensen as his assistant.
